Guillermo Fariñas Hernández, about whom you can read in the item on the Santa Clara library, is currently on a hungerstrike that he began over three months ago. His goal is to, at least, pressure the government into releasing 26 of the political prisoners that were captured in 2003. All 26 dissidents have serious medical conditions. Fariñas also wants to give meaning to the death of another hungerstriker, Orlando Zapato, at the end of february this year. Zapato died after an 85 day hungerstrike that had the samen goal as Fariñas'.
On the internet several petitions circulate that give support to Fariñas and urge the Cuban government to meet his demands.
We kindly yet urgently request you sign one of the two petitions below to maximize the support for Fariñas and his countrymen.
Petition for Internet Explorer users;
Petition for users of other webbrowsers.
Both petitins offer, at the top of the text, a selection of languages instead of the standard 'Español' among those is 'English'.
Dissidents on Cuba and other countries, Cuban and other writers (amongst whom Mario Vargas Llosa), bloggers (Cuban as well as non cuban), moste of the Damas de Blanco (not all of them have access to the web), and many others signed this petion before you. We hope you will follow that example.
